Collinsville

Collinsville is known as the Whitsundays Heart of the Outback and is a one hour drive inland from Bowen. The trip will take you through Bowen's farming county before heading into the hinterland. Collinsville was settled over 100 years ago as a mining town and retains it's old-world charm. While in town check out the Pit Pony sculpture dedicated to Australia's last working pit ponies and the Coalface Experience, showcasing the town's long history of struggle, strife and mateship. Outside Collinsville is the historic Bowen River Hotel on the banks of the Bowen River. Once a Cobb & Co stop, the hotel is a step back in time and reveals how life on the land was in the 1800s.
