Spion Kop Track
Description
If you are lucky enough to visit South Molle Island you should definitely make time to walk some or all of the Spion Kop Track. This is one of the most scenic Whitsunday trails and you will be rewarded with stunning vistas along the way, from the saddle of the mountain to when you reach the lookout. Feel on top of the world as you take in the magic 360 degree view of the surrounding islands and Whitsunday Passage.
The Spion Kop Track is part of the Whitsundays Ngaro Sea Trail and signs along the way guide walkers through the island's long history of travel and trade. There are over 11 kilometres of track network on the island and you can walk from Bauer Bay or Sandy Bay right up to Mount Jeffreys. Allow at least four hours to complete or explore a section of the trail depending on how much time you have. Along the way you will take in the natural habitat of the island including grasslands, rain and eucalypt forests, white sandy beaches, rocky outcrops and a variety of vegetation and wildlife. The track passes the remnants of an ancient Ngaro stone quarry where you will see shattered rock high on the hillside and spilling down toward the sea. The trail is of moderate grade and suitable for either walking or mountain bike riding.
