Dugong Beach, Whitsunday Island

Description

Dugong beach is located on Whitsunday Island, at Cid Harbour, approximately 17 kilometres east-north-east of Shute Harbour. The campground is ideal for larger groups and offers several walking trails from the site; to Sawmill Beach via a 1.5 kilometre walking track and a 2.5 kilometre one way walking track to a lookout. Sightings of Dugong in the bay occur and turtles are common in the area. There is no snorkelling on the tidal sea grass flats, to protect the habitat. Dugong Beach is sheltered from the prevailing south-easterly winds.

The camp site is suitable for larger groups and is located in dry rainforest, providing good shade. The camp site surface is sand and dirt.

A camping permit is required to camp at Dugong Beach. The campground has a capacity of 36 people (15 small tents). Open fires are not permitted in the Whitsunday Islands National Park.

Dugong Beach can be reached by boat (only) and is best accessed on a mid to high tide. There is a protected anchorage at Cid Harbour. Facilities include a composting toilet and picnic tables. Take your own drinking water, rubbish bags, a fuel stove and insect repellent.

Due to current health advice on social distancing, please contact the business for the most up to date information regarding opening times and services.
